Oh Happy Birthday to Me

Posted on Thursday 29 November 2007

It has been a practice over the past ten or so years for Pauline (Aunt) to call me on my birthday and ask if it’s all right. If I answer in the affirmative, and I always have, she will say she will say she will go ahead and have hers the following month. We are the same age. Now two weeks after the fact I’m about to change my mind about this one.

First some good news; We had a good time Thanksgiving day. although John had to work Crystal came over and Bill and Rose Dumansky were here.

Then Linda and I had a wonderful day for our Aniversary on the 26t.

On Wednesday the 28th. John had a day off so he and Crystal came over. Aunt Pauline joined us for a second Thanksgiving dinner. I personally have had enough turkey. Much fun was had by all.

About three weeks ago I went in for a stress test, which is normal for an old codger like me so I didn’t think anything about that. However the results showed that a part of the front  of my heart and a part of the back of my heart wasn’t functioning properly. I went to see a cardiologist Tues. 27th. He has me scheduled for an angioplasty Dec.14th. My Dr. has me scheduled for multiple tests in her office th 7th. one of those is the simple ultrasound on my neck to check severity of the blockage. If it’s bad enough that the angiogram won’t be safe, they will do an operation on my neck to clear it so sudden blood flow after angiogram wont blow plaque into my brain.

On wednesday night I called the kids the bros. and sisters in law. This certainly is no small thing, but the survival rate is very high with the many that is performed each month.

Keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

[…] In addition to all of that excitement we had some tense days waiting to hear what was going on with my dad’s health. He’s had some heart problems, had some tests done and was scheduled for an angioplasty on Friday. The doc thought they would have to put in a stent or something but after running the little camera up into my dad’s heart decided not to. About 30% of my dad’s heart isn’t working - apparently he’s had a couple of heart attacks that were mild enough that he didn’t recognize them as heart attacks but severe enough that they did damage to the heart. They could do some other type of invasive procedure but the risks just outweigh the benefits. So, dad will be on a medicine regimen and will have to take things much easier. I’m sure he’s heart-broken (pun intentional) about not being able to mow the grass in that Florida heat anymore. […]
